And Heather is back in town...and feels like neglecting her blog, but I'm working on it
Geeze, Nashville <4
I love city life. I plan on Stanford post-high school, so that seems just about right for me. My dream residence is set up in the suburbs, right outside a living, breathing, overly populated city. :D
Eh, to everyone around here, that sounds loco. I can't help it. I feel like I need to breathe in culture. See the open-minded nonsense of it all, and then battle it while being amongst it.
Odd theory.
Oh, I wore my 3WM (three-wolf-moon) shirt to the mall. I absolutely love pop culture. Not everyone got the "joke", but thankfully I know some people are die-hard "The Office" fans, like me. :D
Moving on. I saw "Avatar" today. So here I go on an opinionated rant, watch out:
These cult-fads everyone raves about have never appealed to me. Harry Potter, Edward Cullen, and now Jake Sully, do nothing for me.
I understand the appeal, and I'm not saying I didn't like the movie. Matter of fact, I very much enjoyed Cameron's latest hit. The thing is, never would I call the movie "the best I've seen" or "A future classic"--It's just another SciFi action film with liberal sub-plots.
You know what, I might have enjoyed it more if I even like SciFi, which I don't. It simply doesn't attract to me.
I enjoyed Sam Worthington's first "real" acting premier. (not counting small role in Terminator) His acting and portrayal had me interested in the movie from the start.
The Effects: Oh, I loved them. Every scene was gorgeous, and for what the movie lacked in plot, in made up in imagery. Seeing it in 3D at the Imax was one of the most immersing movie experiences one can imagine.
Sub-Plots: Anti-war..yadda, yadda, yadda...Cameron said he was making a statement, but truth be told, he should have tried harder. If he was going for the "War for oil" message as he stated he was, then he failed. The message i received was more along the lines of America's treatment of the Indians in the Colonial age. So I wasn't "that" enraged by the stupidity of liberal filmmakers.
Overall: I would rate it a solid C. It had drawn out moments (Na'vi's revenge battle) that lasted a bit too long, but demonstrated the magic of modern day film effects. The story was just okay for me.
I know, I know, you Avatar lovers aren't too happy with me right now, but don't worry. I haven't rated a movie above a B- in a long time. Sherlock Holmes tomorrow, I have higher hopes. I'm done with SciFi for a while.
(Don't be mad-that's the highest any movie of that genre has ever been rated by me)
Oh, and I do believe I'll even go see Avatar 2 when it hits the theaters. If not for anything more than the breathtaking effects.
Oh, you should check out my article in the Community Voice. It's the one with my awful awful awful picture beside it. :)
School tomorrow, bleh.
Ciao.
